6th Grade Experience
A strong partnership between the school and family starts day one. By working together, students can build confidence and develop important skills that set the foundation for future academic and personal success. We understand that middle school can feel intimidating to our incoming students; that's why we host several events throughout the school year to get our feeder families and students acclimated to our environment!
We're here to support our newest Eagles through this new transition!
Transition Events
Portrait of a Connector & Schools of Success
6th graders are introduced early to Blackhawk’s Portrait of a Connector traits through grade-level assemblies, classroom lessons and student recognition opportunities. These events help students understand expectations, develop pride in their work and build habits that lead to success throughout middle school.
6th Grade Orientation
Right before school starts, incoming 6th graders come to Blackhawk for orientation. This is where families and students can get familiar with our expectations, protocols and environment. During this time we take students through various activities including school lunch, open gate, trying out lockers, tours of the building and other stations. Parents drop their students off at 8 AM and pick them up at noon.
6th Grade Transition Day
A few days before the school year begins, incoming 6th graders are invited to our building to meet their teachers and fellow students. As the newest class of Eagles, students receive their schedules and locker assignments, practice moving from class to class and engage in team-building activities.
Back to School Night
This is an open house for all current and incoming Blackhawk families. This is one of our many events to help everyone get prepared, excited and ready for the school year ahead.
What Makes 6th Grade Unique?
We’ve created a space just for our 6th graders to help them feel supported as they begin their middle school experience.
A Hall of Their Own
6th graders are located together in a shared hallway to create a close-knit learning community and reduce the overwhelm that can come with a larger middle school building.
Core Teacher Team
Students work with a consistent group of teachers who collaborate to meet their academic and social-emotional needs.
Dedicated 6th Grade Assistant Principal
One of our assistant principals is focused specifically on supporting 6th grade students and their families throughout the school year.
